The next WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match has been announced.
As determined on SmackDown Live tonight, Naomi will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship title against Charlotte Flair next week. At the beginning of April 18th’s SmackDown Live, Charlotte Flair entered and declared that it is an outrage that she does not already have a title opportunity.
Naomi then entered and told Charlotte that she’d be happy to face her for the Women’s Championship. Naomi was perfectly ready to give Charlotte a title shot right there, but Shane McMahon determined that this would simply be a number one contender match.
Later in the show, Charlotte defeated Naomi and therefore became the new number one contender.
This match takes place just two weeks after Charlotte was traded from Monday Night Raw to SmackDown Live; she is immediately entering the title picture. This comes after Charlotte completed a feud with Bayley, the current Raw Women’s Champion.
Outside of Naomi and Charlotte, SmackDown Live this week featured an ongoing plot in which Natalya, Carmella, and Tamina tried to bully Charlotte backstage. Nowhere to be seen was Becky Lynch, who has had little to do since WrestleMania 33.
