This week on SmackDown Live, viewers got a much better idea of what the WWE is planning to do with Shinsuke Nakamura going forward.
About an hour and 20 minutes into the April 11th show, Dolph Ziggler was cutting a promo in which he said that he’s the one who made SmackDown Live into a must-watch show. He also said that although everyone right now is excited about the new superstars, these are essentially new toys, and viewers’ excitement will fade. When that dies down, Ziggler said that he will still be here and still performing great matches.
As Ziggler was talking, Shinsuke Nakamura entered. Ziggler asked who Nakamura thinks he is. Nakamura didn’t say much, simply smiling at Ziggler, but he eventually took the mic and said, “Do you want to know who I am? I am Shinsuke Nakamura.”
It looks like Shinsuke Nakamura’s first storyline with the main roster of the WWE, then, will be against Dolph Ziggler.
This fits with what happened after SmackDown Live went off the air last week: Dolph Ziggler came out to challenge Shinsuke Nakamura, and the two of them had a match after 205 Live.
At the time, it was unclear whether this was legitimately the beginning of a new feud or if this was just something intended for the live audience, but now we know that a Nakamura and Ziggler feud is imminent.
Based on the few words that were exchanged tonight, it seems that the premise of this feud will be that Ziggler is upset that everyone is so fascinated with Nakamura, the new guy, when they should be focused on him, the guy who has been doing this for years already. Meanwhile, Nakamura will be wanting to prove himself on SmackDown Live.
