Tonight on SmackDown Live, Jinder Mahal became the number one contender for the WWE World Championship.

This occurred at the end of a six-pack challenge between Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan, Jinder Mahal, Mojo Rawley, Luke Harper, and Sami Zayn. The winner of this match would be guaranteed a title opportunity in May, and Jinder Mahal ultimately emerged victorious.

The match is going to occur at Backlashthe upcoming WWE pay-per-view that takes place on May 21st. But first, at Payback, Randy Orton will face Bray Wyatt with the WWE World Championship on the line. Because Bray Wyatt is currently on Raw, if he wins, the World Championship goes to Raw.

However, Randy Orton is expected to win the Payback match, and so we should expect a match between Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal at Backlash in May.

In fact, during SmackDown Live tonight, JBL said on commentary that the winner of this match would face Randy Orton at Backlash, not even bothering to entertain the idea that Bray Wyatt would win that match.

In a promo after the match, Jinder Mahal said that the crowd doesn’t like him because they can’t accept diversity but that they soon will have to accept him as World Champion.

Randy Orton then entered, saying that the only thing that Jinder Mahal actually won tonight was an RKO courtesy of Randy Orton himself.
