Gordon Hayward, one of the top free agents to keep an eye on during the NBA offseason, has signed with the Boston Celtics after he opted out of his contract with the Utah Jazz. The 27-year-old forward spent his entire career with the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2010 draft. The Jazz have paid him over $57 million during his seven seasons with the franchise.
Hayward wrote a goodbye essay to Utah on the Players’ Tribune.
The Indianapolis-born Hayward is married to Robyn Hayward and they have two young children.

1. Hayward Has Earned $57.3 Million in 7 Seasons With the Jazz

Hayward has earned $57,279,893 since joining the Utah Jazz in 2010, according to Basketball-Reference.
Spotrac notes that Hayward signed a four-year, $62.9 million deal before the 2014-15 season. He had a player option for the 2017-18 season, which he declined on June 28. Had he stayed with Utah, he would have earned $16,736,710 for the 2017-18 season.
On July 4, there was confusion over whether or not Hayward committed to signing with the Boston Celtics. ESPN’s Chris Haynes first reported that he had committed to the C’s, but then ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi reported that Hayward hasn’t spoken to the Jazz yet and his agent, Mark Bartelstein said there has been “no decision yet.”
Jazz president Steve Starks also confirmed that Hayward hasn’t spoken with the team yet.

However, just hours after the ESPN drama, The Vertical’s Shames Charania reported that the Celtics deal is four-years, $128 million. Charania adds that the fourth year is a player option, just like it was for his previous Jazz contract.
2. Hayward Bought a Tennis Court Estate in Rancho Santa Fe, California for $3.35 Million in 2015
In October 2015, The Los Angeles Times reported that Hayward bought a tennis court estate in a gated ranch in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
The property covers over two acres and the main house has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. There’s also a swimming pool, spa, detached guest’s house and a maid’s quarters. The house was previously sold in 2001 for $2.75 million and was listed in May $3.595 million, the LA Times reported.
Last year, Hayward listed his Sandy, Utah home for $765,000, but it has since been taken off the market.
3. Hayward Bought a Tesla That Cost Around $80,0000 in 2014
In 2014, Hayward bought a P85 Model S Tesla electric car. He talked about it in a 2014 interview with UtahJazz.com, reports SLCDunk.com.
“I got a Tesla. P85 Model S Tesla. It’s the most fun thing I’ve ever driven,” Hayward said. “It was difficult [to purchase it]. It’s a practical thing. It’s the number one rated car on consumer reports ever. … You can pay less money if you charge it at 4 am and 5 am.”
FanSided noted that in 2014, Hayward talked about owning a Tesla in a now-deleted Facebook post. Hayward wrote about a guy driving a Camry wanting to race him.
I bought a Tesla this summer. It’s a really nice car, and pretty fast, too. We were on the interstate when we heard a car pull alongside us, revving its engine like the driver wanted to race. We looked over. It was a Toyota Camry. We were like, “A Camry? A Camry is trying to race us?” The driver of the car stared at us, and then started laughing and waving before we got separated in traffic. Two minutes later, I got a tweet from the guy.
Those tweets still exist.
4. Hayward Signed an eSports Endorsement Deal in 2016

Hayward, who loves video games, has an endorsement deal with an eSports brand. In May 2016, he signed a deal with HyperX. He agreed to use their HyperX Gaming headsets and appear in advertising.
“Video games have always been an escape for me. Above anything else they’re just really fun and a great way to connect with others online and be competitive,” Hayward said in a statement. “As an avid gamer and professional athlete, I know how important it is to have the best equipment to compete and I’m excited to have joined the HyperX team to represent their gaming gear and build upon their reputation of having the most comfortable and best sounding headsets on the market.”
In Utah, Hayward also starred in ads for the local Baily’s Moving And Storage company.
5. Hayward Has Encouraged Fans to Donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to Help a Former College Teammate
In April, Hayward encouraged fans to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society because the cause is close to him. His former Butler Bulldogs teammate Erik Fromm lost his father to cancer in 2016. Fromm was running for the 2017 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year.
As Sports Illustrated reported in March 2015, Hayward also participated in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital‘s “Fan for Life” campaign. He appeared in a commercial for the campaign.
Hayward made the All-Star team during the 2016-17 season. He averaged 21.9 points a game and had a .471 field goal percentage in 73 games.
