WWE wrestler Paige has responded following reports that her fiance, Alberto Del Rio, is being investigated for domestic violence battery.
On Twitter this afternoon, Paige said that the incident in question was being misreported and that she and Del Rio called the police themselves because a woman got angry and threw a drink at Del Rio. Paige also asked everyone on Twitter to leave her alone.
This comes just a few hours after Pro Wrestling Insider reported that Alberto Del Rio, whose real name is Jose Rodriguez and who is now wrestling under the ring name Alberto El Patron, was detained by police in an Orlando airport.
The Orlando Police Department said in a statement to Pro Wrestling Insider, “There was an incident at Orlando International Airport at about 3 p.m. Sunday involving Jose Rodriguez (DOB 5/25/1977). The reported incident was a domestic violence battery, and it is still under investigation. No arrests have been made as of this time, but the case remains open. That is all the information we have for release at this time.”
A few hours after Paige’s tweets, TMZ released audio of the incident. On the tape, Paige can be heard yelling at Del Rio and telling him to leave her alone. She also yells, “I’m trying to get away from you, all the time.”
Law enforcement told TMZ that they are investigating the incident as a domestic violence issue, not making reference to the third person that Paige tweeted about.
Paige has been dating Alberto Del Rio since early 2016. They are currently engaged to be married. Paige is still employed with the WWE, but she has not been seen on WWE programming in over a year, which was at first due to receiving two suspensions in a row and then due to an injury. Alberto Del Rio, meanwhile, left the WWE last year, having since gone on several online rants against the company and its management. He is now signed to Impact Wrestling and performs as Alberto El Patrón.
