Getty Derek Carr looks to be a stellar option in fantasy football this season.
The depth at the quarterback position in 2017 is good news for fantasy owners. While it has become increasingly popular to wait on quarterback in fantasy drafts, this year’s depth allows owners even more room to wait while stocking up on skill position players.
It is difficult to advise anything other than waiting late to draft a quarterback this year, unless a player like Aaron Rodgers is slipping well below his ADP (average draft position). In this case, you may opt to go ahead and select him since you are getting the best player at a position for a good price.
My go-to strategy this year will be to wait until the double digit rounds, and draft quarterbacks in back-to-back rounds. There are about 20 quarterbacks I would feel comfortable starting the season with. The difference between the top performing quarterback and quarterback 12 each season is negligible.
It would be no surprise to me if any of the top 20 quarterbacks in my rankings finished as a top 12 quarterback. Doubling up on quarterback in the later rounds increases your odds that you will find a quarterback that has a stellar season. Doing this last year would have allowed you to find Matt Ryan who well over-performed his ADP.
This is my first set of quarterback rankings for the season, and will continue to update my rankings throughout the preseason. The ADP column shows where a player is currently being drafted (66 stands for 66th pick) courtesy of Fantasy Pros.
