While Canelo Alvarez is the most successful boxer in the family, he and his brothers appeared in the 2023 Guinness Book of World Records after all seven Alvarez brothers fought on the same card back in 2008.

Among the seven brothers we have:

Rigoberto Alvarez, who compiled a 27-4 record, and won the WBA Interim Light Middleweight title in 2010.

Ricardo Alvarez, who put together a 24-3-3 record inside the ring and won the WBC Latino Super Lightweight belt.

and Ramon Alvarez (seen below), who put together a 29-8 record during his career, and won WBC & NABO titles.

#2: His Son Dreams of Being a Pro Boxer as Well

Canelo Alvarez’s son, Saul Adiel Alvarez, who was born in 2019, dreams of being a boxer just like his dad.

During an interview with MARCA last year, the legendary boxer opened up on how at just five years old, his son has already developed a love for boxing:

“He loves boxing. He told me, ‘Hey, when am I going to fight in Vegas?’ I said, ‘OK, take it easy. When you grow up and you’re 18 years old, maybe you can fight in Vegas. First you’re going to take the first punch and then let me know if you want to be a boxer or not.”

Despite that, Canelo has made it clear that he will support his son no matter what he wants to do.

#3: His Father Didn’t Want Him to Get Into Boxing

While Canelo Alvarez has put together one of the greatest resumes in boxing history, his dad initially didn’t want him, or any of his older brothers, to box.

According to an ESPN article from 2023, Santos Alvarez didn’t want his sons to box, and because of it, Canelo’s older brother Rigoberto had to sneak into boxing matches at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara.

After Rigoberto became an adult and established himself as a boxer, he began training Canelo before their father came home from work. Eventually, Rigoberto sat their father down, telling him that Canelo was born to hit others, and he needed to allow him to fight.

Eventually, Santos got on board with the plan, and the rest is history.

#4: His Mother, on the Other Hand, Was Easily Convinced

When Rigoberto returned home to Guadalajara after establishing himself as a boxer, he brought home gloves and head gear for Canelo to use.

According to ESPN, The first time Rigoberto saw Canelo sparring with another kid, he quickly told their mother, Ana Maria:

“Well, your son here is a raw diamond. He was born to do this.”

Although Rigoberto retired, he began training Canelo, with their mom saying in a 2023 interview with MARCA:

“He was very restless as a child, a fighter more than anything else, he liked to fight, he liked to get into fights, because he always had adrenaline, he wanted to get into fights to fight and take out his anger.”

#5: He and His Wife Married in 2021

After initially beginning to date in 2016, Canelo and Fernanda Gomez broke up the following year.

Eventually, however, the two found their way back to one another and got married in May of 2021. They now have two daughters together.

Fernanda is notably a model and an influencer who runs both a nail salon, and a store for women’s clothing and beauty products.
