Brad Keselowski shared an update from a leg injury he suffered late last year, noting things are progressing faster than expected. The NASCAR veteran believes he could soon reach a major milestone in the process.

Keselowski suffered the leg injury in December during the offseason, forcing the wheelman to spend much of the winter focused on rehabilitation rather than preparation for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season. Despite the setback, he has continued competing while working through the recovery process during race weekends, even earning a top-five finish at the Daytona 500.

Speaking during media availability this weekend at Phoenix Raceway, Keselowski said he is already well ahead of the projected timeline for recovery.

“Really well,” Keselowski said when asked how he is feeling. “It’s supposed to be a six-month to 12-month recovery. I’m on track to do it in three or four, which is great.”

The RFK Racing driver is still using a cane while moving around the garage, but he said that may not last much longer.

“I got out of the motorhome and took three or four steps without a cane,” Keselowski said. “I’m almost ready to be rid of this thing.”

Keselowski acknowledged that racing itself presents unique challenges during the recovery process. The physical demands of driving a Cup Series car, including vibrations, cockpit loads and the effort required to climb in and out of the vehicle, can aggravate the injury.

“Driving the car is not the best thing for me in some ways,” he said. “Whether it’s the vibrations or the loads, or the moments to get in and out.”

Once strapped in behind the wheel, however, Keselowski said he generally feels comfortable enough to compete.

“Once I’m in the car I feel reasonable,” he said.

Like many injuries, recovery has come with occasional setbacks, particularly during long race weekends.

“There are little setbacks that come from driving the car,” Keselowski said. “Dehydration or just the workload in general.”

Even so, the 2012 Cup Series champion said the recovery process has become a source of motivation.

“I’m really happy with just staying the course and putting the work in,” Keselowski said. “In some ways it’s good for me because it provides the motivation to do the rehab at a really high level.”

Keselowski Sees Improvement After Slow 2025 Start

Keselowski also pointed to early improvements for RFK Racing compared to the start of the previous season.

After several races in 2026, the No. 6 team is running higher in the points standings than it did at the same stage last year, something Keselowski said reflects both better execution and greater stability within the team.

“I would say the start of last year was not very good,” Keselowski said. “There were a lot of reasons for that. Some of it was poor luck and some of it was poor execution.”

Keselowski explained that the organization underwent major internal changes entering the 2025 season.

“We turned over pretty much the entire team from ’24 to ’25,” he said. “That was a big transition.”

With a full season together now behind them, Keselowski believes the group is starting to find its footing.

“Now the team has some legs underneath it,” he said.
