Five-star freshman safety Jireh Edwards suffered a right arm injury during Alabama football practice on Monday, according to Yea Alabama.
The Crimson Tide confirmed that Edwards will undergo surgery Tuesday. The injury is not expected to be season-ending, and Alabama’s medical staff is optimistic that the freshman can return this season.
Edwards, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound former five-star recruit, had impressed throughout the first three weeks of fall camp and was projected to contribute as a rotational safety.
The No. 2 safety in the 2026 On3 Industry Player Rankings will now focus on his recovery while continuing to participate in team and position meetings and film study.
Alabama has plenty of experience at safety with Bray Hubbard, Keon Sabb, Zay Mincey, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., and Ivan Taylor, giving the Crimson Tide depth while Edwards works his way back.
Alabama hopes Edwards can recover quickly and return to the field at some point this season.
