There is a break in the college football schedule until the CFP semifinal bowl games take place on January 8-9.

It has been a good run for college football fans with bowl games on nearly every day, but the schedule is coming to a halt. Saturdays are synonymous with college football, but there are no bowl games on TV today, January 3. The same can be said for Sunday as there are no college football games until Thursday, January 8.

While there are two upcoming College Football Playoff semifinal matchups, the non-CFP bowl schedule has officially ended for this season. Just three college football games remain before a long offseason. The Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl and national championship are the only remaining college football games.

Fans looking to watch football today can get their fix with the NFL. There are intriguing NFL games on both Saturday, January 3, and Sunday, January 4, with legitimate playoff implications.

College Football Playoff Schedule: The CFP Semifinal Games Are on January 8-9

Here’s a look at the remaining college football games which resume on Thursday, January 8. There are no more traditional college football bowl games remaining on the schedule. The three remaining contests are all related to the College Football Playoff.

There are the two semifinal games (Fiesta and Peach Bowl) followed by the national championship on Monday, January 19. Following these games, there will be a long layoff before the 2026 college football season begins in August.

When Does the 2026 College Football Season Start?

Once the national champion is crowned on January 19, fans will be looking forward to the start of the 2026 college football season. There are four scheduled games for Week 0 on August 29, including two international games.

Bill Belichick and North Carolina will travel to Dublin, Ireland, to open the season against TCU in an ACC-Big 12 clash. Virginia squares off against NC State in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The more traditional Week 1 schedule begins on Thursday, September 3, with a full slate of college football games on Saturday, September 5. For now, fans still have a few more weeks to enjoy the current college football postseason.
