Ole Miss Is 1 Game Away From the National Championship Despite Losing Lane Kiffin to LSU

Former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin may be making history for the wrong reason. Kiffin became the rare coach to leave a College Football Playoff team for another program during the season.

Now, Ole Miss is just one win away from playing for a national title, despite losing Kiffin. Much has been made about the Ole Miss players wanting Kiffin to be allowed to coach in the CFP, but some Rebels have made it clear that this was not the case once the coach took the LSU job.

“The only thing that’s different is who’s running them out of the tunnel,” Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding explained, per Bleacher Report. “And to be honest with you, I don’t think the players give a (expletive) who runs them out of the tunnel. Does that make sense? They care about their plan.

“They care about being held accountable, and how they’re going to prepare, and they care about people that care about them. And I think that’s been the message our players have created. But I don’t have (expletive) to say to anybody else.”

Oregon Gets Chance at Redemption vs. Indiana in the Peach Bowl

In Atlanta, Oregon is looking to prove that the Ducks are a different squad than the team that lost at home to Indiana in October. Oregon linebacker Bryce Boettcher described the loss to Indiana as a “wake-up call.”

“I believe everything happens for a reason,” Boettcher said of the first matchup against Indiana, per BigTen.org. “I think we needed that to kind of wake us up. We came out of a big Penn State win.

“… Got a little lackadaisical with our prep, I think. It was a good wake-up call. The rest of the season leading up to this point is a pretty good testament to the way we responded to that loss.”
