Indiana's Aiden Fisher addressed the cheating accusation on Tuesday.

Indiana’s rags-to-riches story has captured the nation’s attention amid a dominant College Football Playoff run.

The Hoosiers dismantled Alabama and Oregon convincingly, which sparked suspicion from an X.com user, @GoatKiffiin, who floated a cheating accusation that gained traction on social media. Indiana linebacker Aiden Fisher addressed the unsubstantiated claim during Tuesday’s media session.

“I’ve seen all the different stuff about our team,” Fisher told reporters. “It’s kind of ridiculous to me, we watch film, we study, we prepare. I know a lot of people have put a lot of different things out, but we’re just doing a good job preparing.”

“We have things we see in our preparation, and we have the best D coordinator in college football,” Fisher added. “So when you match up those things, you get off to fast starts as a defense.”

That’s Bryant Haines, who came over from James Madison to Indiana with head coach Curt Cignetti in 2024. Fisher was part of the contingent of players from JMU, who also headed to Bloomington on following a successful stint in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Indiana’s defense has been dominant all season with 11.1 points allowed per game, and teams muster only 260.9 yards of total offense against the Hoosiers. In the takeaway department, Indiana is as opportune as it comes with 18 interceptions and 12 forced fumbles this season.

Opposing Coach: ‘It’s Asinine’

An anonymous coach whose team competed against the Hoosiers this season told Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde that he doesn’t see cheating going on.

“I think it’s asinine,” the coach told Forde. “I just think they’re really [expletive] good. I didn’t see anything when they played us other than really good players who are really well-coached.”

“I didn’t see their game against Ohio State [in the Big Ten championship], but I went back and watched the all-22 [game film], and they just whipped ’em up front,” the coach added. “Those interior guys on the D-line get no credit, but they’re really good. And the O-line is dominating. There’s nothing suspicious about winning up front.”

The accusation from @GoatKiffin claims that the Hoosiers have “been hacking into the VEO/Pixellot software to watch practice film of  other teams, but they have infiltrated most cloud-based systems which teams keep the their games plans on.” That said, one Power Four conference general manager explained to Forde that it’s highly unlikely the Hoosiers could be doing that and getting away with it.

“It would be very difficult to steal info from Catapult and not get caught,” the general manager told Forde. “The same for the headsets. You might be able to tap a frequency for a home game, but in the CFP? Highly unlikely.”

“They are very good and a very good model of what can happen in today’s world when a school invests in football, and they have the right leadership,” the general manager added.

Indiana Had a Very Good Team Before 2025

Indiana didn’t come out of nowhere this season.

The Hoosiers had a strong team in 2024 with an 11-2 record in Cignetti’s first season at the helm, and Indiana made the College Football Playoff but lost at Notre Dame, 27-17. That Hoosiers squad also had quite the defense with 15.6 points and 257.2 yards allowed per game.

In other words, the Hoosiers have been at it for a while playing dominant football.
