The Ohio State Buckeyes have churned out a lot of NFL talent in recent years with one of the more interesting alums being current New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields.
Fields has had a rollercoaster NFL career to this point in time. He has been unable to find a true home at the professional level and has already bounced around between three teams.
To start his career, Fields was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played his first three years with the Bears before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2024 season. After one season with the Steelers, Fields signed with the New York Jets in free agency.
Unfortunately for Fields, the 2025 season with the Jets did not play out well. He is widely expected to part ways with New York this offseason.
Justin Fields Named a Potential Fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Heading into the offseason, the question about where Fields could head next will be a topic of conversation. Enter the Steelers, who could make sense as a potential fit.
Pittsburgh could be looking for a new quarterback after one year with Aaron Rodgers. Fields found good success during his one year with the Steelers and would be a legitimate option to consider.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named the Steelers as the best possible offseason fit for Fields.
The former Ohio State star played in nine games for the Jets this season. He completed 62.7 percent of his pass attempts for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception, while also running for 383 yards and four more scores.
Those numbers aren’t bad. He wasn’t in a good situation in New York. A return to Pittsburgh would give him a much better chance with a better run organization.
At the very least, this is a scenario to keep an eye on for the 26-year-old quarterback. He’s under contract for one more season with the Jets, which would make this move require a trade between the Steelers and New York.
Looking Back on Justin Fields’ Career at Ohio State
During his time with the Buckeyes, Fields looked like a budding superstar. Many thought that his NFL career would be filled with stardom.
Fields ended up staying at Ohio State for two seasons. After transferring from the Georgia Bulldogs after his freshman year, he played for the Buckeyes in 2019 and 2020.
Throughout his three collegiate seasons, Fields completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 5,701 yards, 67 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also produced big numbers on the ground with 1,133 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Things may not have transpired the way that Fields or Ohio State fans expected for him in the NFL. Despite that fact, he’s not going to be forgotten anytime soon in Columbus.
No matter what the future has in store for Fields, Buckeyes fans will continue rooting for him. Hopefully, this offseason brings a situation of stability for the Ohio State alum.
