The Ohio State Buckeyes are still feeling the pain from losing to the Miami Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do about that now.

Entering the playoff, Ryan Day and company were viewed as a top-tier national championship contender. Many felt that they would make a second straight run to a title. That wasn’t in the cards for Ohio State.

Instead, the Buckeyes headed into the offseason full of disappointment. Once again, the team will lose a lot of talent to the NFL Draft. They also saw quite a few players leave the program to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

While things haven’t been easy for Ohio State, the fact of the matter is that star quarterback Julian Sayin is returning for the 2026 season. With him leading the way, the Buckeyes are going to be a contender once again.

Ohio State HC Ryan Day Doesn’t Hold Back About Julian Sayin

After completing his first season as a starting college quarterback, Sayin has become one of the top talents in the nation. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist this year and has just started scratching the surface of his potential.

Keeping that in mind, Day spoke out with some strong words about his signal caller. He put the rest of college football on notice and sent a warning about Sayin.

“Julian is going to have a huge offseason,” Day said. “Julian is really going to dive into this thing and take the next step.”

Sayin was already one of the best players in the nation. If he can take the big step forward that Day is projecting, the Ohio State offense is going to be very difficult to stop. Jeremiah Smith is also coming back for one more year with the Buckeyes.

On the outside looking in, Ohio State’s offense will keep the team in championship contention.

Looking Back at Julian Sayin’s 2025 Season

Throughout the course of the 2025 season with the Buckeyes, Sayin put up big-time numbers. He completed 77 percent of his pass attempts for 3,610 yards, 32 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

It’s clear from those numbers why Sayin was a Heisman finalist. He ended up losing out on the award to Indiana Hoosiers star quarterback Fernando Mendoza, but he’ll begin the 2026 campaign as a favorite for the coveted award once again.

Heading into next year, Sayin will also be playing for his NFL Draft stock. He will be eligible to take his talents to the professional level in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Should he take the next step and elevate his production even more, Sayin will be one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation for next offseason. He would not have to enter the draft, but he would have the option of doing so.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for the rising star quarterback. Sayin will need to live up to the hype in 2026, but it’s clear that Day has full belief in him.
