Texas Longhorns fans have been eagerly waiting for word on whether Emmett Mosley V might finally be returning to the game after an injury. And although early news this week had been looking positive, it now appears that fans will have to wait a little longer to see him in action.
ESPN Reported that Mosely Is Not Likely to Return
In an update in the early evening on September 5, the day before the game against the San Jose State Spartans, Pete Thamel of ESPN revealed that Mosley isn’t likely to return this week.
He wrote, “Sources: Texas wide receiver Emmett Mosley V is expected to miss his second-straight game, as he’s nursing a lower-body injury. He’s a Stanford transfer who led ACC freshmen in receptions last year with 48.”
Thamel continued, writing, “Mosley traveled with the team to Ohio St., but did not dress for the game. Mosley, a sophomore from Chicago, projected as a starter heading into the year for Texas. He had 525 receiving yards and led Stanford with 6 TD catches last year and was a significant portal add for UT.”
The disappointing news comes just a few days after head coach Steve Sarkisian had gotten fans’ hopes up that Mosley might have healed enough to join the game, at least for a short period of time.
During the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday, Sarkisian said: “We’re monitoring that closely,” Sports Illustrated reported. “I think if he does go Saturday, it’ll be on a limited basis, but we’ll see again. I’m not in a rush with him, because when we get him out there, I want to make sure that he’s healthy, and so I’m going to lean into our training staff on that of what that looks like for Emmett. I know he’s chomping at the bit to get out there, and I know we’re excited to get him out there, but that remains to be seen.”
Mosley has been struggling with a lower leg injury that was limiting him during preseason camp practice.
Fans have had their hopes up about the role the Stanford Cardinal transfer could play with the Longhorns. However, because Texas is expected to easily win against the Spartans, the news likely won’t have an impact on how the game turns out.
Also out due to an injury is Andre Cojoe. The redshirt sophomore suffered a season-ending injury to his knee during preseason camp, Burnt Orange Nation reported. Such an intense injury puts a question mark on Cojoe’s future and if he will have recovered enough to compete in the offensive tackle rotation during the next preseason camp.
