Frankie Muniz will take on the ARCA Menards Series.

Frankie Muniz’s NASCAR journey has hit an unexpected speed bump, this time, not on the racetrack but in his own backyard. The former Malcolm in the Middle star turned professional race car driver revealed he’s suffered a serious wrist injury that will sideline him for several weeks.

Muniz shared the news on Instagram, explaining that the accident happened while he was doing something as ordinary as changing the batteries in his Ring security camera. Unfortunately, that quick task turned dangerous when he fell from the top of a ladder.

“The phrase ‘FML’ (Frankie Muniz’s Life) takes on new meaning with moments like these,” Muniz wrote. “I’m disappointed to share that I won’t be racing at Darlington this weekend or for the next few weeks due to a distal radius fracture. Yesterday, I fell from the top of a ladder while changing the batteries in a Ring camera in my backyard. Note to self: heed the ladder warning that says, ‘Do not sit or stand on top step.”

Muniz Staying Positive Despite Setback

The actor-turned-driver, known for his all-or-nothing approach to racing, admitted the injury was frustrating but said he’s thankful it wasn’t worse.

“In hindsight, a taller ladder would’ve been smarter. While I’m gutted to miss the races, I’m grateful it wasn’t worse,” Muniz added. “I feel for my team, who’ve poured their hearts into this season, and I’m thankful for @FordPerformance and their unwavering support. The doctor estimates a 6-8 week recovery, so I’ll be back in the driver’s seat as soon as I’m cleared.”

A Tough Break After a Promising Start

This isn’t the first time Frankie Muniz has been sidelined by an accident since leaving NASCAR, per Andrew Peters. Last year, he was involved in a multi-truck crash in Arizona that left him limping to an ambulance. Even then, he brushed it off as “unfortunate” and quickly shifted focus back to racing.

Muniz has been vocal about how much racing means to him, often comparing it to his time in Hollywood. While acting gave him fame, he has said that racing provides a clear, measurable challenge; there’s no middle ground, only winning or losing.

That drive has fueled his transition from sitcom star to full-time driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

“Ever since childhood, it’s been my dream to pursue racing in NASCAR, and it was important for me to partner with a team that aligned with my long-term objectives and vision while providing every opportunity imaginable to grow mentally and physically as a full-time race car driver,” Muniz said in a statement per Bruce Haring of Deadline.

“That said, I’m so grateful for my team,” Muniz said. “And I’m so excited for next season. This year wasn’t what we had hoped, but this proved that I can race with guys, and I can pass here. We’re gonna be better next year, and I’ve got the whole off-season to prepare. We’re gonna go get it.”

For now, fans will have to wait to see him back behind the wheel, but one thing is certain: Frankie Muniz isn’t giving up on his racing dream anytime soon.
