The 2026 Genesis Invitational returns February 19-22, as one of the premier stops on the PGA Tour calendar. Hosted once again at the iconic Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, this Signature Event brings together an elite field of world-class talent for a four-day battle on one of golf’s most revered layouts. The Invitational isn’t just another early-season tournament; it’s where legacies are reinforced and stars make statements ahead of the year’s biggest prizes.

Unlike regular Tour events with full, open fields, the Genesis Invitational features a limited, invitation-style field composed of top performers from around the world. With FedExCup points, a massive $20 million purse, and a coveted spot in the season’s narrative on the line, the lineup reads like a who’s who of modern golf greatness.

Tiger Woods Awards Sahith Theegala Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption

Tournament host Tiger Woods added another meaningful storyline to the 2026 Genesis Invitational by selecting Sahith Theegala as the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption.

Awarded annually since 2009, the exemption celebrates the legacy of Charlie Sifford while recognizing players whose journeys reflect progress in the game. Woods said Theegala shares Sifford’s desire to compete against the best, calling the invitation a proud moment for the tournament.

“During Charlie’s playing days, all he wanted was an opportunity to compete with the best players in the world so he could showcase his game, and Sahith shares those same characteristics,” Woods said. “I am proud to welcome Sahith to the field for The Genesis Invitational, a tournament that shares a lot of meaning for us both.”

Born in Fullerton and raised in Chino Hills, Theegala learned golf on public courses before becoming a standout amateur at Pepperdine University. Riviera holds special significance for him; he made his PGA Tour debut there in 2017 and has since gone on to compile one career win, 100 made cuts, and 24 top-10 finishes.

This will mark Theegala’s sixth Genesis Invitational appearance, where he’s made all five previous cuts and posted three top-15 finishes, including a T6 in 2023. With strong early-season form already in hand, his return adds both competitive firepower and emotional depth to an already stacked Genesis field.

Ludvig Åberg’s Genesis Breakthrough Still Looms Large

2025 showed how fast the Genesis Invitational can flip on its head, and Åberg provided the perfect example. He was three shots back on Sunday and then birdied four of his final six holes, finishing with a 6-under 66 to win by one shot over Maverick McNealy.

That victory also came with extra context that made it hit harder. The tournament was relocated from Riviera to Torrey Pines due to wildfires in Los Angeles, and Åberg’s triumph doubled as a personal bounce-back after he’d recently battled illness on the same course in another event. By the time he poured in the clinching birdie putt on the par-5 18th, Åberg had not only secured a Signature Event title, he’d also grabbed a massive payday (reported as $4 million) and a major boost to his early-season profile.

“Was nice to come here, starting to feel like myself again and physically getting there,” Åberg said at the time. “It means a lot. This is the best feeling in golf, and to be able to do what I did today is definitely going to help me going forward in the future.”
