Mito Pereira took to social media this week to announce his retirement from professional golf.

The Chilean professional was reportedly recovering from a broken collarbone in the weeks leading up to his retirement announcement. At just 30-years-old, the news came as a surprise to many fans of the player.

Mito Pereira’s Career

Pereira played at Texas Tech before turning pro in 2015. By 2021 he secured multiple wins on the Korn Ferry Tour, earning an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour. That same year, at the Tokyo Olympics, Pereira’s team fell just short of a bronze medal during a playoff.

His PGA career was solid, and Pereira was a known presence on the course. Then, at the 2022 PGA Championship, Pereira led by one shot ahead of the 18th hole in the final round. Unfortunately, he sent an aggressive driver shot into a creek, resulting in a double bogey and eventual loss to Justin Thomas.

In 2023, Pereira signed with LIV, where he secured 2 top-3 finishes. The professional finished 8th overall in standing. In 2024, his game had slipped drastically, and he ended year at 48th. He finished the 2025 season in 51st.

Outside of golf, Pereira married his childhood sweetheart, Antonia Prida, in 2021. Together, the couple welcomed their first child in 2024.

Mito Pereira’s Announcement

On social media, Pereira wrote,

“I’m writing these lines to share that, after a period of reflection, I have decided to bring my career as a professional golfer to an end. This was not a decision made overnight, but one I have been thoughtfully considering for some time, waiting for the right moment to communicate it.”

He highlighted his love of the sport, while reflecting on the memories.

“I carry with me unforgettable memories: the three Korn Ferry Tour titles that earned me a place on the PGA Tour; my time on the LIV Tour, where I discovered many destinations and truly enjoyed competing as part of an incredible team, Team Torque; and the honor of representing Chile at the Pan American Games and the Olympic Games. Standing on the podium in Lima 2019 and narrowly missing an Olympic medal in Tokyo 2020 are moments that will remain forever in my memory and in my heart.”

Pereira went on to thank those who had supported him.

“I would like to thank Anto, my family, and all my friends, both within and beyond golf. I am also deeply grateful to my manager, coach, team, sponsors who trusted the process, and the many fans that always made me feel loved.”

Pereira added a sentimental touch to the post.

“I spent many years living away from home, in another country, countless weeks in hotels and airports. Now, the time has come to pause. Chile is my place in the world, and my family is my reason for being.”

“Golf taught me resilience, how to navigate both good and difficult moments, and how to make discipline and goals a way of life. I believe I am well prepared for what lies ahead.”

Pereira ended the note with a thank you, and a big hug.
