Justin Rose walks the 15th hole during the second round of the 2026 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 10, 2026.

Following a busy second round on Friday at the 2026 Masters Tournament, the field at Augusta National Golf Club was officially trimmed as the cut line separated contenders from those heading home. With the weekend now set, only those who performed strongly over the first 36 holes will continue their pursuit of the green jacket. The pressure now shifts into moving day Saturday, where positioning becomes critical and every shot carries added weight.

The third round traditionally brings some of the most dynamic golf of the week. Players are grouped based on scores and tee off in groups of two from the first tee. This year is no different, with a deep leaderboard and several major champions still in contention.

Notable Pairings

Round 3 at the Masters Tournament could always see a change in the leaderboard. This year’s edition at Augusta National promises to be no exception. With conditions expected to remain tough as the weekend progresses, scoring opportunities could be harder to come by. Rounds 3 and 4 will require even more precision and course management that what has already been seen leading into the weekend.

All eyes will be on the marquee afternoon grouping featuring Rory McIlroy and Sam Burns. The  duo will tee off at 2:50 p.m. ET in the final pairing of the day. They are expected to draw significant attention as the top of the leaderboard continues to tighten heading into Sunday. Despite McIlroy’s record-breaking 6-shot lead, anything can happen out on the course.

Those in contention and looking to score their first green jacket include Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and Shane Lowry.

Elsewhere, several notable champions and contenders remain in striking distance. These include Scottie Scheffler alongside Ludvig Åberg, who go out just after noon in another key pairing. Meanwhile, past major winners such as Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, and Justin Thomas will also look to make their moves during Saturday’s round.

As “moving day” unfolds, momentum will be everything. With Augusta’s demanding layout and high-stakes atmosphere, the leaderboard can change quickly, setting up a dramatic final round on Sunday.
