The Procore Championship wasn’t just another stop on the schedule; it felt like a dress rehearsal for Bethpage Black. With ten members of Team USA in the field, the spotlight burned brightest on Scottie Scheffler and Ben Griffin, two teammates who battled down the stretch in Napa.

Scheffler didn’t lead early on–in fact, Griffin held a solid lead after three rounds, but Scheffler’s firepower showed up when it mattered. A closing 67 (par-72 course) put Scheffler at 19-under par, enough to edge Griffin and walk off the 18th green knowing he’s golf’s most dangerous player right now.

Ryder Cup Form Meets Reality Check

Griffin entered Sunday with the lead, having posted a steady tournament through 54 holes. The narrative heading into today: a Ryder Cup rookie showing he belongs, even under pressure that comes with knowing dying needs to extend well into playoff season.

But pressure can be a double-edged sword. Griffin held strong early Sunday, but couldn’t quite stay in Scheffler’s rearview mirror late; his birdie opportunities cooled, mistakes crept in, and he watched as the world No. 1 methodically ate into his advantage. Griffin ended with a -18.

Still, Griffin’s final charge through the first three rounds earned respect, and showed that Team USA has some legit depth heading into Bethpage Black.

“I’m pulling for all the [Ryder Cup] guys to play well,” Griffin said. “We want to build some momentum going into the Ryder Cup. I think the European guys are … all trying to play really well and show us what they’re capable of and we’re trying to show them what we’re capable of … I want them all to play well, but I want to play a little bit better.”

Scheffler Showing Why He’s No. 1

Scheffler’s road to the win was one of escalation. He opened with a solid but unspectacular round, then hit his stride with an aggressive Saturday 64 that snapped him into serious contention. When Sunday came around, the playbook was clear: stay aggressive, trust his irons, and punish any hole that gave a slight opening.

“I knew I was going to have to have another really good day. I was chasing down some pretty talented guys on the leaderboard,” Scheffler said. “I got off to a good start on the front nine and did some good stuff on the back nine and fortunate to be the winner this week.”

Even more telling: this wasn’t just a comfortable “win at a weak event” effort. Several Ryder Cup teammates were in the field, and Scheffler made sure his game looked sharp heading into one of golf’s biggest team events.

His finish wasn’t just a confirmation of dominance; it was a statement of form at the perfect time.

“I kind of did my best to stay in my own world and keep making birdies,” Scheffler said. “Did a good job at staying patient and finished it off nice.”

Ryder Cup Pulse Check

If you were worried about Team USA’s cohesion or readiness for the Ryder Cup, Napa should have eased a few nerves. Ten of the twelve U.S. players are teeing it up in the Procore Championship, and more than a few showed flashes of high-mileage team readiness. Griffin’s pressure leadership, Scheffler’s kill-mode mode, and even rookies showing up ready to ball all suggest a squad buying in–not just playing.

“I always focus as much as I can on my preparation going into tournaments, that’s what gives me confidence, and I feel like I’m as prepared as possible for the Ryder Cup,” Scheffler said.

Captain Keegan Bradley has made no secret of pushing chemistry and sharpness heading to Bethpage Black, and watching his squad punch their tickets in Napa might just be exactly the jump-start the Americans needed.
