The PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, represents the final regular‑season event in the FedExCup standings. Only the top 70 players will advance to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first leg of the FedExCup Playoffs. Rookies currently sitting just outside that cutoff face a dramatic final chance to punch their tickets, and secure full status for the 2026 season and premier signature events.

According to recent PGA Tour coverage, five rookies still stand within striking distance. But three in particular–Rasmus Køllors Højgaard, William Mouw, and Karl Vilips–offer the clearest path with exceptional upside this week.

Here’s a closer look at the three with, possibly, the strongest case to break through, based on recent trends, course fit, and competitive edge.

Rasmus Højgaard (FedExCup Rank: ~82)

Højgaard enters the Wyndham Championship on the fringe of playoff qualification. Ranked around No. 82, he needs roughly a top‑four finish (T4) to vault into the top 70 on the strength of his season-long momentum.

The Danish rookie has demonstrated consistency in 2025, making 12 cuts in 17 starts, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Zurich Classic alongside twin brother Nicolai, and a strong showing at The Open Championship (T16). Skipping last week’s 3M Open to rest, Højgaard arrives in Greensboro refreshed, focusing on seizing this pivotal opportunity.

His game has matured impressively, especially around the greens, and he arrives at a pivotal course that rewards precision and composure. A deep run this week would not just earn him playoff entry, but validate his status as one of the rookies with true star potential.

William Mouw (FedExCup Rank: ~80)

Just ahead of Højgaard at about No. 80, Mouw is also on the bubble, but within striking distance if he posts a solo 11th finish or better at Wyndham.

Mouw’s 2025 campaign includes a win at the ISCO Championship and a T7 finish at the 3M Open. In 19 events played, he’s logged three top‑10s, reflecting a rookie year that blends flashes of excellence with room to grow. His ability to get hot–particularly in ball‑striking and scrambling–gives him a clear shot at the pressure‑packed week ahead.

A powerful drive and clutch putting could tip the balance. With the FedExCup stakes so high–only the top 70 advance–a strong final round could catapult him into playoff terrain and carve out full PGA Tour exemption for the future.

Karl Vilips (FedExCup Rank: ~83)

Rounding out the trio is Australian rookie Vilips, sitting around No. 83, who must aim for at least a solo fourth‑place finish to push into playoff contention.

Vilips burst onto the scene early this season with a win at the Puerto Rico Open and a T4 at the Zurich Classic. However, recent results have slipped–five consecutive missed cuts have put his playoff hopes in jeopardy. Still, the talent is unmistakable; he’s shown superb iron play and course‑management skills in majors and swing events alike.

Wyndham offers him a critical reset–if he can find form in Greenville County, he could convert early-season promise into postseason opportunity. It’s a high-risk, high-reward week for Vilips–one final shot to reward his explosive potential.

More Than Just Points

Qualifying for the top 70 at Wyndham delivers more than playoff access. It guarantees full exemption into the 2026 season, including entry to eight signature events that draw the highest stature fields and points purses. For rookies, that status leap can truly shape career trajectories.

Among these, Aldrich Potgieter is the only rookie currently inside the playoff cutoff–ranked near No. 42 in FedExCup standings. But the focus this week will be on those chasing him: Højgaard, Mouw, and Vilips.
