Rory McIlroy and wife, Erica Stoll, have attempted to put the chatter about their nixed divorce behind them. Yet, as McIlroy headed to Augusta National in his quest to repeat as Masters champion, new stories emerged about the previous tension in the couple’s marriage.
Despite this chatter, Stoll has been front and center in Augusta. The couple appeared together alongside their daughter, Poppy, at the Masters Par 3 Tournament.
McIlroy and Stoll filed for divorce in May 2024 only to call off these plans months later. During Season 3 of the Netflix show “Full Swing,” McIlroy opened up about the impact that being in the public spotlight had on their relationship.
“There’s parts of my life that I like to keep as private as possible,” McIlroy noted during the show released in 2025, per People.com. “Unfortunately, in this line of work, that isn’t always possible.”
“… I think it was a wake-up call for me to say, ‘Let’s just focus on the golf for a little bit.'”

Back in June 2024, McIlroy released a statement revealing that the couple were no longer getting divorced. McIlroy also appeared to reference the rumors that connected the golfer to other high-profile individuals.
“There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate,” McIlroy told The Guardian in June 2024. “Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game.
“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
Stoll has since been a staple at PGA Tour events, cheering on McIlroy. The golfer’s wife celebrated the 2025 Masters win with McIlroy and is once again at Augusta National for this year’s tournament.

There had been concerns about McIlroy’s back heading into Augusta. McIlroy opted to skip several recent PGA Tour events, but the star revealed that he has been practicing at Augusta National in recent weeks while spending more time with Stoll and Poppy.
“I honestly just don’t like the three tournaments leading up to this event,” McIlroy noted regarding his PGA Tour absence during an April 10, press conference. “I’d rather come up here.
“I did a couple of days where I dropped Poppy to school, flew up here, played, landed back home and had dinner with her — or had dinner with Erica probably. Like I did a couple of day trips like that where I felt it was a better use of my time than going to Houston or San Antonio. It wasn’t really about conserving energy, but just I felt the more time I could spend up here, the better.”

During the Ryder Cup, Stoll was on the receiving end of some disturbing fan behavior. A viral video showed a fan throwing a beer at Stoll, but McIlroy described his wife as a “strong woman” amid the incident.
“Erica is fine. She’s a very, very strong woman,” McIlroy said after Europe won the Ryder Cup, per Irish Star. “She handled everything this week with class and poise and dignity like she always has. I love her and we’re going to have a good time celebrating tonight.”
