The long wait is just about over with Ryder Cup week officially here, but Mother Nature has already thrown a curveball ahead of golf’s greatest showdown.
Team USA vs. Europe won’t actually square off at Bethpage Black on Long Island until Friday, Sept. 26, when the balls go in the air. But there’s plenty of hoopla in the days leading up to the actual competition, and rain in the forecast also forced the PGA of America to move up the opening ceremony one day. Previously scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, the opening ceremony will now be held Wednesday, Sept. 24.

We won’t know the pairings for the opening round until Thursday night. Typically, that’s revealed at the opening ceremony, but the PGA of America also announced the two captains — America’s Keegan Bradley and Europe’s Luke Donald — will make their announcements for Friday’s foursomes play at some point on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Weather Unlikely to Be Factor During Ryder Cup Play
It sure looks like the right decision was made with the opening ceremony, as lingering humidity is expected to give way to thunderstorms at some point. There could be some rain on Friday for the start of the tournament, but it’s not expected to be a major issue with clouds breaking as the day progresses.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be otherwise fine with maybe temperatures slightly warmer than usual. Highs are expected to climb into the mid- to high-70s with lows in the 60s, so a little warmer than the world’s best players have become accustomed to dealing with during Ryder Cup morning sessions.
