Golfer Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI after he was involved in a rollover crash in Florida on Friday, authorities revealed.

The golfer got into the accident on Friday afternoon near his home, with authorities saying he was charged with DUI with property damage after refusing a drug test following the crash.

The Associated Press had reported that the crash involved two cars, with no injuries reported from either vehicle.

According to a source at the Martin County Fire Rescue, it was a two-car crash, one vehicle was a rollover,” the report noted. “One person is stable, while another refused to go to the hospital. MCFR said there are no injuries to anyone. No additional information was immediately released.”

Tiger Woods Charged After High-Speed Crash

As People magazine reported, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek revealed the charges against Woods during a press conference close to three hours after the accident on Friday afternoon.

“The crash involving Woods, 50, took place in Jupiter Island. Budensiek alleged that Woods was driving his Land Rover at a high speed behind a pickup truck,” the report noted. “The driver of the trailer, which was pulling a pressure cleaner, tried to pull over to avoid Woods, but Woods allegedly clipped the back of the trailer, and his Land Rover rolled over.”

Budensiek reported that Woods appeared “lethargic” and had “signs of impairment” after climbing out of his vehicle. He was arrested and taken to Martin County Jail.

“Budensiek said Woods did not consume alcohol, but refused a urinalysis, and that authorities believe he had drugs in his system,” the People magazine report added. “According to Budensiek, Woods ‘did explain the injuries and surgeries that he had, and we took that into account.’ “

The People magazine report added that Woods was involved in another car crash in February 2021 in California. The golfer was injured in the rollover crash in a community outside Los Angeles, with police saying he showed signs of impairment. Woods did not face charges for that crash and later underwent surgery for the injuries he suffered

Golf Future in Doubt for Tiger Woods

Even before Friday’s crash and subsequent charges, it was not clear when Woods would be able to return to the golf course on a full-time basis. He is still recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in March 2025, which was followed by back surgery later in the year.

President Donald Trump said this week that Woods would not be competing in the Masters Tournament next month. Woods is close to the Trump family and is dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr.

Woods could be preparing for a return later this year. He submitted an entry for the 46th U.S. Senior Open in July, though a spokesperson for the tournament said there was no guarantee that Woods would be able to compete.

“Tiger has entered the championship, simply to ensure eligibility, but will not make a decision about playing until a later date,” a USGA spokesperson said Friday, via The Sports Leader.
