Black-Eyed Susan 2026 Results & Payouts

The Black-Eyed Susan 2026 results are in, and My Miss Mo won the 102nd running of the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. The race took place on the Friday of the Preakness 2026 Weekend

My Miss Mo came out of the 2026 Black-Eyed Susan as the winner, defeating eight other horses to earn the stakes. Haute Diva was scratched from the race earlier in the day, leaving a field of nine horses to compete in the race.

Jumping the Gun finished second, followed by A.P. Girl’s finishing third.

Black-Eyed Susan Results Are In

The Black-Eyed Susan is not as big as the Preakness Stakes, and that is reflected in the payouts for the race.

My Miss Mo paid out $7 to win, $4.40 to place, and $3.20 to show. Jumping the Gun paid $6.80 to place and $4.60 to show, while A.P.’s Girl paid out $4.00 to show. The exacta (10-7) paid $24, the tri-fecta (10-7-9) paid $90, while the superfecta (10-7-9-8) paid $442.

These numbers are also smaller than the payouts for the 2026 Kentucky Derby.

A Day Marked With Tragedy

Despite this weekend being the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, it was a day marked by great sorrow and tragedy.

At the conclusion of the first race, the horse Hit Zero collapsed. Later, it was revealed that they suffered a medical event and then passed away.

Shortly after, the Maryland Racing Commission also confirmed the news.

“The Maryland Racing Commission confirms that Hit Zero, trained by Brittany Russell and owned by ItsTheJHo, LLC, and Evan Trommer, died of an apparent cardiac event on Friday, May 15, 2026, following Race 1 at Laurel Park,” their statement reads. “Veterinary personnel responded immediately. The Commission extends its acknowledgment of this loss to the horse’s connections and to the equine community.”

“The Equine Medical Director attended to Hit Zero and has initiated a full post-incident review consistent with Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) Equine Fatality Reporting Requirements.”

Kentucky Derby Winner Skipped Preakness Weekend

The Kentucky Derby culminated in a historic victory for Golden Tempo. The horse’s trainer, Cherie DeVeux, became the first female trainer to win the Derby. Additionally, it was a nail-biting last-to-first finish for the horse.

Several days following the race, Golden Tempo’s team made the decision to bypass the Preakness.

“After much thoughtful discussion as a team, we have decided that Golden Tempo will bypass the Preakness Stakes,” the statement began. “We are incredibly appreciative of the excitement and support surrounding the possibility of a Triple Crown run. The enthusiasm from racing fans, our owners, and our entire team has meant more to us than we can properly express. Golden gave us the race of a lifetime in the Kentucky Derby, and we believe the best decision for him moving forward is to give him a little more time following such a tremendous effort.”

“His health, happiness, and long-term future will always remain our top priority. We are looking forward to pointing him toward the Belmont Stakes and are excited for what lies ahead with this very special horse.”

So while a Triple Crown winner will not happen this year, a potential two-out-of-three winner would still be a huge accomplishment.
