The Duke Blue Devils and head coach Jon Scheyer have officially landed a No. 1 seed for March Madness in the NCAA Tournament.

After an impressive regular season and ACC championship win, the Blue Devils finished the year with a 32-2 record. Entering the tournament, they are one of the top National Championship contenders in the nation.

While earning a No. 1 seed is always a positive start, Duke is facing a tough road ahead.

Just to get through their first bracket, the Blue Devils could face teams like No. 2 UConn, No. 3 Michigan State, and No. 4 Kansas. There are plenty of other good teams and elite head coaches on their side of the bracket as well.

Keeping that in mind, Duke has been hit with a strong warning ahead of the tournament by a former NBA star.

Duke Blue Devils Face Strong Warning Before March Madness

Wally Szczerbiak spoke out with his opinion on the matter. As shared by CBS Sports, he thinks that the Blue Devils are facing the toughest road in the entire tournament.

“Duke has the hardest road in my opinion. It’s not even close,” Szczerbiak said. “That is not a reward for the overall No. 1 seed.”

Despite having a difficult road ahead, Duke will need to prove that it’s the best team in the country. At least making it to the Final Four would have already seen the Blue Devils go through a gauntlet of talented teams.

From a pure talent perspective, Duke should be scared of no opponent. The Blue Devils’ roster is loaded and should give them a fighting chance to win it all this season.

Who Are Duke’s Key Players Entering the NCAA Tournament?

Headlining the talented Duke team is Cameron Boozer. Widely expected to be a top-three pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Boozer will be asked to shoulder a large load during the tournament.

Throughout the course of the season, Boozer has averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 56.5 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent from three-point range.

Isaiah Evans, the Blue Devils’ dynamic guard, is the second leading scorer on the team. He has averaged 14.9 points per game this season to go along with 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

Scheyer leading the way will give Duke a coaching advantage or at least a wash with any opponent it faces. He is among the best head coaches in college basketball.

That being said, the Blue Devils will open up their hopeful NCAA Tournament run with a matchup against No. 16 Sienna at 2:50 p.m. ET on Thursday. Fans will be able to watch the game on CBS.
