The UConn basketball team is preparing for their much anticipated primetime matchup against Michigan State in the 2026 NCAA March Madness Tournament. The Huskies have emerged as a top contender as a No. 2 seed, though injuries have dominated the headlines for the team and instigated questions about the stability and continuity of their roster.

Here’s everything to know about the injury status of UConn’s roster, particularly for rotational players. For a full schedule of 2026 March Madness Sweet 16 games, click here.

The most notable concern for the UConn basketball program revolves around guard Silas Demary Jr., who has been dealing with a lingering ankle injury throughout the tournament. Demary missed the Huskies’ opening victory, though he made a limited return in the Second Round against UCLA. Although he logged 22 minutes in the Round of 32 matchup, his impact on the stat sheet was minimal as he scored only two points. However, his presence on the court was still felt against UCLA as UConn significantly outperformed their competitor while he was playing. Ultimately, this underscores the importance of his role on the rotation.

Head coach Dan Hurley has indicated that Demary is continuing to receive treatment and is pushing to be as close to full strength as possible. Yet, his condition remains something to monitor going into the Sweet 16 as any limitations could affect UConn’s ball movement and perimeter defense.

Another player drawing attention on the injury report is forward Jaylin Stewart, who is listed as questionable as he is currently out with a knee injury. Stewart has been battling the injury for several games now and, like Demary, is attempting to play through discomfort during the tournament to help his team advance. Hurley noted that both players are giving it their all ahead of the Sweet 16 matchup.

Despite these injury concerns, there are encouraging signs for UConn basketball. Demary’s returna gainst UCLA, even in a limited capacity, suggests that he is trending in a healthy direction ahead of the Sweet 16 round. His ability to handle the ball and facilitate offense provides a stabilizing presence for the Huskies. Overall, UConn is entering the Sweet 16 in a relatively stable condition compared to other teams still in the competition who are also battling injuries. This is particularly true in a tournament such as March Madness where health of key players is often more important than talent alone.

UConn will play UCLA in the Sweet 16 round at 9:45 PM ET / 8:45 PM CT / 6:45 PM PT. The games can be streamed on Fubo, Sling, Direct TV, Paramount+, Hulu, and for free through the March Madness Live app and NCAA.
