On Wednesday, the Boston Red Sox are playing the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada for the finale of their three-game series.
The Red Sox are coming off a 3-0 loss on Tuesday.
Earlier in the week, the team shockingly fired manager Alex Cora (and other members of their staff).
Cora had been at the helm for part of eight seasons.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote (on April 25): “The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Rámon Vazquez and game-planning coach Jason Varitek, sources tell ESPN.”
Red Sox Legend Pedro Martinez Reacts To Cora News
Following the news, Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez sent out a post (via X).
He wrote: “I believe Alex Cora did such a strong job in Boston that anything that went wrong was always going to fall on him. Boston is a city that can’t stand being out of the hunt… just like Philadelphia. I would call it the curse of the East.”
Martinez spent seven seasons with the Red Sox.
He won two of his three Cy Young Awards with the franchise (and they won the 2004 World Series Championship).
