The Chicago Cubs have officially begun their 2026 MLB season with spring training and are gearing up for what they hope will be a World Series run.
During the offseason, the Cubs appeared headed for another slow offseason. Fans were growing frustrated with Jed Hoyer’s lack of aggressiveness, but things changed quickly.
Hoyer may not have been aggressive to begin the offseason, but he ended up leading Chicago to being one of the biggest winners in baseball. He was able to pull off a big trade with the Miami Marlins to acquire starting pitcher Edward Cabrera. After that move, he quickly moved to sign star third baseman Alex Bregman.
On paper, the Cubs look like one of the top championship contenders in baseball. They will need to go through teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets in the National League, but they have the talent to win a championship.
There are still some questions surrounding the team, with one of those questions having to do with star pitcher Justin Steele. He is working his way back from an injury and recently provided a new update on his recovery.
Chicago Cubs Star Justin Steele Provides New Injury Update
As shared by Marquee Sports Network, Chicago fans received an exciting update about Steele from the man himself.
“I’m feeling really good. Bullpens have been progressing really well lately,” Steele said.
Right now, it is unknown when Steele will be able to make his return for the Cubs. There is hope that he could return fairly early on in the year, which would give Chicago a much better chance at winning the NL Central.
However, the reality of the situation is that the Cubs simply need Steele back at full health and pitching his best come playoff time.
Justin Steele Could Be the Final Piece to the Cubs’ World Series Puzzle
Over the last few years, Steele has pitched like a superstar for Chicago. His elbow injury was a big setback, but there is no denying what he can bring to the mound when healthy.
Last season, he was only able to start four games before going down with the injury. He went 3-1 in those four starts and compiled a 4.76 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, a 4.2 K/BB ratio, and 22.2 innings pitched.
Back in the 2024 campaign, the Cubs’ star pitcher went 5-5 in 24 starts with a 3.07 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, a 3.6 K/BB ratio, and 134.2 innings pitched.
At 30 years old, Steele still has plenty of good baseball left in his career assuming he can stay healthy. Chicago fans should be excited about this new update. Hopefully, the recovery process continues going smoothly without any setbacks and Steele is able to get back on the mound early on in the season.
