Heading into the 2026 campaign, there are quite a few reasons for optimism if you are the Detroit Tigers. Not only does the team have a solid crop of players at its disposal currently, but they also have several top-tier prospects in its farm system who could make the jump to the majors in the near future.
Coming in towards the top of that list is outfielder Max Clark, who is ranked the No. 10 prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com. However, Clark has been facing backlash throughout Spring Training for his flashy appearance, which has included wearing several diamond chains around his neck during his time on the field. With fans continuing to bash him, Clark recently responded to his critics with a blunt message.
Max Clark Sends Strong Message to Critics — ‘I Don’t Care’
Clark was selected by the Tigers with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, and he has quickly solidified his standing as one of the top prospects in baseball. At just 20 years old, Clark found his way to Double-A last season, and he appears to be on the verge of finding his way to the majors at some point in 2026.
In 111 games between Double-A and High-A last season, Clark hit .271 with 14 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases. Clark has the potential to become a true five-tool player, and while there are areas of his game that are still works in progress, that’s what happens when you only recently turned 21 years old.
Throughout Spring Training, though, much of the chatter surrounding Clark has been negative. After committing a pair of errors in a contest against the Atlanta Braves last week, Clark was bashed for his flashy appearance, despite the fact that he still has yet to make his major-league debut. Unsurprisingly, Clark has quickly caught wind of these comments, and he recently took a second to respond to his critics.
“I don’t care what they have to say, to be completely honest with you,” Clark said, per Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press. “People don’t know me. There’s a lot of people out there that will do anything for some monetary clicks. I’ve been dealing with this since I was 15. It’s a part of this game. It’s a part of this process. And it’s only going to get worse, obviously.”

Any hopes of Clark starting the season in the majors have quickly vanished, thanks to his early struggles in Spring Training. However, it’s worth noting that Clark is still young, and as he grows, there are to be some bumps in the road. That shouldn’t take away from the fact that if Clark can figure things out, he has the potential to be a superstar in this league.
For now, Clark is going to continue getting at-bats during Spring Training, but he is likely going to remain in the minors to begin the 2026 campaign. If he can put up some solid numbers to begin the year, though, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Clark make his major-league debut at some point later in the year.
