Fans of the Detroit Tigers finally have a place to watch Tigers games this season following a team announcement on Monday, March 2.
The owners of the Tigers and the Red Wings announced the launch of Detroit SportsNet, a year-round streaming platform that will serve as the new broadcast home for both teams. Subscribers can watch Tigers games beginning with Opening Day on Thursday, March 26, against the San Diego Padres.
Detroit SportsNet will be available via various cable/satellite providers, as well as through in-market streaming subscriptions, per a release from the Tigers. The team hasn’t announced specific providers or channel locations yet, though it expects the latter to be “near other sports programming in your television lineup.”

The new platform will replace FanDuel Sports Network, the club’s previous broadcasting outlet. The former network was operated by Main Street Sports. The Tigers were one of nine teams to cut ties with the organization this offseason. The Atlanta Braves also went the solo route, launching its own broadcast platform. The majority of the teams leaving Main Street Sports handed over their broadcasts to MLB.
“Given recent uncertainty throughout the regional sports broadcasting industry, we recognize the importance of providing fans with a consistent, year-round outlet to watch Tigers baseball and Red Wings hockey,” president and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment Ryan Gustafson said in a press release, relayed by Jason Beck of MLB.com.
“We have two of the top-rated broadcasts in our respective sports and remain focused on listening to fans about what matters most to them,” Gustafson continued. “What we’ve heard includes making sure our games are available throughout the market, providing a reliable streaming product, and producing a broadcast that’s informative and entertaining in all the right ways. This is a great path forward in those areas, allowing us to provide a great experience for fans throughout our local market.”
Fans can grab access to Detroit SportsNet to watch Tigers games for as little as $19.99 a month. There’s also a choice to get annual access to the product for $189.99, though that option is only available to folks in the home television territories for Detroit’s baseball and hockey squads. Eligibility is determined by zip code. Residents who only fall in the home market of one of the Tigers or Red Wings are ineligible for the annual subscription.
