Over the last few years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have caused a lot of drama throughout baseball with their extreme and aggressive spending.
Each and every year, it seems like the Dodgers land another superstar or two. The same was seen this offseason when the team was able to sign superstar free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker.
Los Angeles has won two straight World Series championships. If the Dodgers are able to win again this season, they would become the first team to three-peat as champions since the New York Yankees did it back in 1998, 1999, and 2000.
Due to the dominance that Los Angeles has had over the last couple of years, fans and even teams have been starting to push for a salary cap. Some have gone as far as to say that the Dodgers have broken or ruined baseball.
While those opinions are based in some fact, San Diego Padres star infielder Manny Machado has spoken out against the idea of a salary cap.
Manny Machado Weighs in on Los Angeles Dodgers Drama
As shared by MLB reporter and insider Bob Nightengale, Machado believes that what Los Angeles is doing is good for baseball rather than harmful. He’s also very clearly against the idea of a salary cap.
“This is (expletive) great for the game, honestly,” Machado said. “I think every team should be doing it.’’
Machado makes a very interesting point. Instead of teams complaining about what the Dodgers are doing, they could get creative and find a way to do it themselves.
Granted, Los Angeles is a huge market with more money to spend than other teams. However, there have been many front offices who have been unwilling to get aggressive with deferred money contracts. There are teams who could take the same big swings that the Dodgers are taking if they choose to change their strategy.
Only time will tell what happens with a potential salary cap, but Machado isn’t about that idea.
Dodgers Once Again Look Like World Series Favorites Entering 2026
With the addition of Tucker, Los Angeles will have a very good chance at accomplishing its goal of winning a third straight World Series.
On paper, there are no teams in baseball more talented than the Dodgers. If they can stay healthy, they’re going to be extremely difficult to beat.
Los Angeles has fully embraced going all-out to win. Other teams around the league have been hesitant to follow suit. In Machado’s mind, the rest of baseball should follow the Dodgers’ lead.
Expect to continue hearing strong opinions about this situation moving into the future. There are plenty of differing beliefs on the matter, but Machado’s attacks back at the trend of claiming that baseball is being ruined by Los Angeles.
