The Los Angeles Dodgers are fresh off their second-straight World Series victory, but even that hasn’t been enough to slow them down. Once again, the Dodgers have been one of the busiest teams in the league this offseason, as they have reinforced what was already a championship-caliber roster with guys like Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz.
And yet, even without those guys, Los Angeles likely would have been favored to win it all again in 2026. The Dodgers have built a strong cast of characters that they are bringing back once again for the upcoming season, and one of those guys, third baseman Max Muncy, got some good news regarding his future with the team on Thursday.
Dodgers Sign Max Muncy to One-Year, $10 Million Contract Extension
Muncy has been one of the great success stories of the Dodgers’ recent dynastic run. After struggling to find his way with the Oakland Athletics, Muncy ended up finding his way to the majors with Los Angeles in 2018, and he hasn’t looked back since then. One of the top power hitters in the game, Muncy has turned himself into a key cog in L.A.’s loaded lineup.
While Muncy may not be the All-Star caliber player that he was back in 2019 and 2021, he’s still a valuable member of the Dodgers’ clubhouse. While he missed significant time for the second straight year due to injuries, Muncy still put up some solid numbers, hitting .243 with 19 home runs and 67 RBIs over 100 games of action.
Heading into the 2026 campaign, Muncy’s future was a bit up in the air, as he was set for free agency at the end of the year. Those questions have been put to rest, though, as the Dodgers announced that they signed Muncy to a one-year, $10 million contract extension that will keep him with the team through at least 2027.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to terms with IF Max Muncy on a one-year contract extension for $10 million guaranteed, which includes a $7 million salary for the 2027 season and a $10 million club option for 2028,” the team announced in a post on X.
Max Muncy on Track to Finish Career with Dodgers

It hasn’t always been a smooth ride for Muncy over the past few seasons, but it’s telling that Los Angeles has won its three most World Series titles with him on its roster. And as he prepares to enter his age-35 season, it’s looking increasingly likely he will finish his career with the Dodgers, as there’s also a $10 million club option in his new deal for the 2028 season.
It’s been a big day for the Dodgers, as they also re-signed Enrique Hernandez in free agency, adding another familiar face to this stacked group. Simply put, Los Angeles looks unstoppable, and it’s not too hard to see why. If Muncy can stay healthy and continue producing at his usual level, there’s a decent chance that Los Angeles’ front office will receive high marks for finding a way to take care of this crucial piece of business right before the start of the new season.
