The Milwaukee Brewers continue to be hot coming out of the All-Star Break. They recently passed the Chicago Cubs as leaders of the NL Central Division and now have the league’s best record after a dominating weekend. The Cubs remain one of the top teams to watch for this postseason, but the Brewers are currently red-hot in the pitching, fielding, and batting game.

Brewers Match up to the 1950 Brooklyn Dodgers

The Milwaukee Brewers come out of the weekend winning six of their last seven games, including a three-game road series sweep against the Washington Nationals. It wasn’t just a sweep; it was a dominant display of the Brewers’ potential offensive. Milwaukee outscored Washington 38-14 in the three games played, but they also accounted for 56 hits.

The Brewers accounted for the most hits by an NL team in a three-game series since 1950. That team was the Brooklyn Dodgers when they accounted for 57 hits in a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 23-25. This was a Dodgers team that featured elite season performances from second baseman Jackie Robinson, outfielder Duke Snider, and shortstop Pee Wee Reese.

Many batters for Milwaukee had an impressive series against the rebuilding Nationals. Left fielder Christian Yelich accumulated seven hits, six runs, five walks, and only four strikeouts in 13 at-bats. Yelich had one of the best performances all weekend for not only the Brewers but potentially in the entire league. Catcher William Contreras accounted for six hits, including five hits in Milwaukee’s 16-9 win on Friday. First baseman Andrew Vaughn has accounted for six hits, including three in Friday’s game.

As a team, Milwaukee only struck out 22 times, with 12 coming from the first and second games. The team provided most of their scoring in base runs and big play hits, outside of home runs. The Brewers accounted for 88 total bases run and seven home runs all weekend.

Brewers Playing at Elite Level at the Plate

The Milwaukee Brewers continue to develop one of the most impressive offenses in the league thanks to a loaded, but determined roster. Yelich continues to have an explosive season at 33 years old. The team is also seeing some incredible performances from some of their younger players, including Contreras, right fielder Sal Frelick, and second baseman Brice Turang.

Milwaukee currently ranks sixth in the league in runs scored (541), third in batting average (.256), and fourth in on-base percentage (.328). They are also tied for ninth in the league in total hits accounted for at 951, but if the Brewers continue to build off this incredible momentum, they might reach a new height when it comes to their efficiency at the plate.

There is still plenty of time for the Brewers to develop themselves and keep that red-hot performance at the plate going for the postseason. They know they can’t be overconfident, accounting for a huge weekend against a Washington Nationals team that doesn’t have a future in terms of managers or star players. Still, any time a team gets near a 75-year-old NL record, they have to feel good about their chances for a World Series title, which they currently do not have.
