The New York Mets still need outfield help, and with six weeks left until MLB Spring Training, if the Mets lose out on Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger, they will be scrambling to find a competent outfield option to pair with Juan Soto and Tyrone Taylor, who are the Mets’ only two options in the outfield with ample big-league experience at this point.
New York has gone full “cleaning of house” mode this offseason and has already made massive trades to offload Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo. That’s two outfield options right there, so maybe it’s time the Mets front office flips the narrative and acquires an outfielder. It’s been a while since this report developed further, but back in late November, MLB reporter Ken Rosenthal reported that the Los Angeles Angels were open to trading Jo Adell and Taylor Ward. Nearly a week later, Ward was moved to the Orioles. The New York Mets should consider making a blockbuster deal for Jo Adell.

Mets Trade Pitch Lands Angels’ Jo Adell
Recent reports suggest that the Mets are turning their priority towards the trade market, which means it’s a great time to speculate who the top tradeable options are across the league.
Jo Adell enjoyed a true breakout season in 2025. He smashed 37 home runs in 526 at-bats, and enjoyed career marks in home runs, doubles, OPS+, RBIs, and runs scored. 2025 was Adell’s sixth season in MLB, and he’s had trouble finding his footing since being a top prospect in the Angels system, but his approach in 2025 featured a “swing for the fences” mentality.
The Angels are operating under new leadership in the front office, and now might be the perfect time to enter rebuild mode and build around shortstop Zach Neto.

GettyJonah Tong will pitch for the Mets against the Chicago Cubs.
In this trade pitch, the Mets acquire Jo Adell from the Angels of Anaheim in exchange for prospects Jonah Tong, A.J. Ewing, and infielder Ronny Mauricio.
That’s three players who are either MLB-ready or will very soon be for an immediate impact bat for the Mets’ outfield. While the reports from Rosenthal haven’t materialized further, it is surprising that other MLB teams have not been linked to Jo Adell.

The Mets’ Need for an Outfielder/Offseason Outlook
Despite losing Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz, the New York Mets have had a solid offseason in terms of additions, but the need for an outfielder continues to grow as top free agents come off the board.
New York has brought in Jorge Polanco, Devin Williams, and Luke Weaver in free agency, and also added Marcus Semien via trade. The Mets are putting an emphasis on defense this offseason, as the defensive metrics pointed out that New York had given up far too many runs that shouldn’t necessarily have scored last season.
As for adding Jo Adell, he also has a favorable contract. He is still an arbitration player and won’t be a free agent until 2028, and that’s not to mention he’s still just 26 years old.
It would suck to lose prospects like Jonah Tong and Ewing, but the Mets have a strong core of pitching prospects, which is headlined by Nolan McLean, who might be untouchable. But with McLean being potentially not eligible for trade, that leaves Tong and Brandon Sproat as the top internal trade candidates in the Mets organization.
The Mets will continue to be linked/rumored to make these big offseason splashes as long as the team’s 2026 roster isn’t filled.
