Mets Receive Blunt Prediction for 2026 MLB Season

After missing the 2025 MLB postseason due to an epic collapse, the New York Mets have a very important offseason upcoming. Back in late July, the Mets were in a dogfight with the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East crown.

However, the Mets‘ trade deadline acquisitions were big busts, and New York slumped badly throughout August and September. Despite monster seasons from Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor, it just wasn’t quite enough for the Mets to secure the final Wild Card in the NL.

Now, with the announcement that Alonso will opt out of his current deal with the Mets and test free agency, that will lead to the Mets’ front office re-evaluating what their roster layout will look like headed into 2026. Even Mets’ owner Steve Cohen had to apologize to the fans due to the implosion that happened.

Mets Predicted to Make 2026 Postseason

While this may not be the headline Mets fans want to see at this juncture, New York still has a good outlook of playing October baseball next season.

In a recent predictions piece by Bleacher Report, the New York Mets are still projected to make the postseason next season:

“They’re going to be stewing about this season in Queens for a while still, and rightfully so. A collapse is no fun. A collapse by the most expensive team in MLB is inexcusable. The Mets now have some major decisions to make, including whether to bring back Pete Alonso following his upcoming opt-out. And yet one thing we can always take for granted is that money will be no object for Steve Cohen, who knows the buck stops with him as far as getting the team back to the World Series.”

There’s no doubt that Steve Cohen will enter this free agency period with vengeance, and the Mets are almost certainly going to make the best attempt possible to bring Pete Alonso back and add several starters that can be durable throughout the regular season.

The Mets Will At Least Have Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor

If all else fails, the Mets will still have two of their absolute most important pieces in the lineup next season. Juan Soto finished the season with a stellar stat line. He hit .263 with 43 home runs, 105 RBIs, and also surprised most people who follow MLB with over 30 stolen bases.

Another bright spot for the Mets headed into next season is the young starters they have, who performed well down the stretch. That’s Jonah Tong, Nolan McLean, and Brandon Sproat. The unfortunate part for the Mets this season was that they had to rely on those arms a little bit too much, and it ended up costing them.

With Cohen being so sincere about how the Mets finished this season, you can expect him to open up the checkbook this winter, and for New York to get right back into contention next summer.
