The New York Mets are entering the 2026 season with the hope of having a bounce-back year. The 2025 campaign was certainly disappointing for the Mets, as they finished the season with an 83-79 record and missed the playoffs. This was even after the Mets landed star slugger Juan Soto in free agency this past offseason. With this, there is no question that they performed far below expectations in 2025.

In response to their rough 2025 season, the Mets had a busy offseason. The National League East club brought in several new players as they look to turn things around. They most notably signed star infielder Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million contract. They also brought in several other notable players, like Freddy Peralta, Luis Robert Jr, Marcus Semien, Devin Williams, Jorge Polanco, Luke Weaver, and Tobias Myers. With this, the Mets are certainly entering the new season with a different-looking roster.

However, the Mets will need to wait a long time before being able to see one of their depth additions get back into action, as he got some bad injury news.

New Mets Pitcher Robert Stock Getting Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Surgery

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Mets pitcher Robert Stock shared that he needs to undergo thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. In addition, Stock shared that he is hopeful that he can return to action by the end of the season.

“Robert Stock, RHP, says he’s been told he needs thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Said he could possibly be back by the end of the year,” Heyman posted on X.

Stock signed a minor-league contract with the Mets back in November, with the hope of impressing during spring training to earn a chance on New York’s major league roster. Yet, with this news, Stock is now expected to miss a significant chunk of the season. This is certainly an unfortunate development for Stock, as it takes away his chances of making the Mets’ roster for the time being.

Stock Will Look to Prove He Can Be a Full-Time MLB Pitcher Once He Returns

If Stock ends up being able to return to game action at any level this season, the 6-foot-1 righty will be looking to impress. The Bellevue, Washington native is still aiming to prove that he can be a full-time MLB pitcher at this stage of his career.

Stock appeared in two major league games this past season with the Boston Red Sox, where he allowed one home run, three earned runs, and four walks. Down in Triple-A with the Worcester Red Sox this past season, he had a 5-4 record, a 3.92 ERA, and 96 strikeouts in 19 appearances.

Before this past season, the last time Stock played at the major league level was in 2021, where he split time between the Chicago Cubs and Mets. In 57 career major league games over five seasons, he has a 2-4 record, a 4.90 ERA, and 77 strikeouts.

Nevertheless, it will now be interesting to see when Stock is able to return to the mound. This is certainly tough news for the righty.
