New York mayor Zohran Mamdani started a firestorm with his trip to Citi Field on April 9.

There’s no shortage of blame to go around for the New York Mets‘ 11-game losing streak, and apparently some Mets fans are going to extraordinary lengths to pass the buck.

FOX News commentator Sean Hannity is blaming New York mayor Zohran Mamdani for the Mets’ skid, since they have not won since the Democrat attended a game almost two weeks ago.

The Mets have the worst record in baseball (7-15) but started hot by winning seven of their first 11, including the opener of their home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 7.

But New York hasn’t won since. The club’s losing streak is its longest since 2004, and that skid coincides with Mamdani’s first game attended as mayor, April 9, when he met Mr. and Mrs. Met before the Mets lost to the D-Backs, 7-1.

The right will blame Mamdani for everything else that goes wrong in New York, so why not blame him for the Mets’ week-plus-long skid, as Hannity did on his show Monday night on FOX News?

“The New York Mets are on an 11-game game losing streak, right after the mayor met and hugged the team mascot Mr. Met at Citi Field on April 9,” Hannity said. “A phenomenon people area calling the ‘Mamdani curse.'”

Naturally, Hannity’s take is exaggerated, since the Mets’ skid actually started April 8 with a 7-2 loss to Arizona on the night before Mamdani attended.

But even though he cited alternate facts, Hannity technically is right to say the club hasn’t won since Mamdani met the Mets. Besides losing two straight to Arizona, they were swept by the Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs and just completed a winless six-game road trip.

Still, Hannity ultimately pinned the blame on the first-year New York mayor.

“It’s hard to lose 11 games in a row in baseball, but he pulled it off,” Hannity said.

The Mets haven’t had Juan Soto in their lineup since he hit the injured list April 3. They are last in the majors in runs scored (72) and OPS (.624).

But Hannity isn’t the only New Yorker blaming Mamdani for the streak. The New York Post referred to the skid as “The Curse of the Mambino,” and Mamdani, a diehard Mets fan from Queens, owned that nickname Tuesday.

“There’s a lot of baseball to be played,” Mamdani said at his press conference Tuesday. “I’m still keeping the faith as I know that many Mets fans are across the city.

“I will accept being addressed as Mayor Mambino for the day.”

Whether the Mets can turn their season around remains to be seen. But there are Mets fans who are still bitter with the mayor, even though he poked fun at himself for the club’s lengthy skid.

“Ever since that hug, I don’t know what’s been happening lately, and Citi Field does not deserve what they’re getting right now,” a Mets fan told CBS News New York on Tuesday.

Still, Mamdani is rooting for his home-borough’s club to snap the skid Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins.

“I wear my Mets hat from time to time and I’m going to send all the best wishes to the team,” Mamdani said. “You know, I will keep my fingers crossed as every Mets fan does.”
