The New York Yankees have added to their prospect pool after completing a trade with the Houston Astros.
The Yankees have announced that they have acquired prospect pitcher Wilmy Sanchez from the Houston Astros in exchange for infielder Braden Shewmake.
Sanchez has appeared in five games with Double-A Corpus Christi this season, where he has a 0-0 record, a 1.29 ERA, and eight strikeouts. This is after he had a 2-4 record, a 6.05 ERA, and 75 strikeouts during this past season with the Double-A club.
At just 22 years old, Sanchez still has plenty of time to improve and eventually cement himself as a major-league pitcher. He was off to a strong start this season before this trade to the Yankees, and he will now be looking to continue to impress with his new organization.
As for Shewmake, he will now be looking to cement himself as a full-time MLB player with the Astros. The 28-year-old infielder had zero home runs, one RBI, and two doubles in 10 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season before this trade.
Shewmake played in 29 games last season for the Chicago White Sox, where he had one home run, four RBIs, five stolen bases, and a .125 batting average. During the previous season, the 2019 first-round pick played in two games for the Atlanta Braves, where he went 0-for-4 at the plate.
