Last week, the New York Yankees designated pitcher Cade Winquest for assignment. This was after the Yankees selected the 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher at the Rule 5 draft.
Now, after clearing waivers, the Yankees have announced that they have sent Winquest back to the Cardinals. He will be heading to Triple-A Memphis and will be looking to make an impact in the process.
Winquest spent this past season split between Single-A+ Peoria and Double-A Springfield, where he had a 5-7 record, a 3.99 ERA, and 110 strikeouts in 25 appearances. Overall, it was a decent year for the 25-year-old pitcher, and he will now be looking to build off it after heading back to the Cardinals organization.
Before being designated for assignment, Winquest was on the Yankees’ major league roster but did not get into any game action. As a result, he is still looking to make his major league debut and will be aiming to change that after being sent back to the Cardinals organization.
