The New York Yankees have gotten off to a strong 5-1 start to the 2026 MLB season. Cam Schlittler, the team’s rising star ace, has gotten off to equally as impressive of a start.

Schlittler has already made two starts for the Yankees this season. He has yet to give up a single run, in 11.2 innings and has a 0.26 WHIP to go along with 15 strikeouts and no walks.

Last season as a rookie, the 25-year-old pitcher broke out as an immediate star. He made 14 starts and compiled a 4-3 record to go along with a 2.96 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, a 2.7 K/BB ratio, and 73 innings pitched. In the postseason, he made two starts and went 1-1 with a 1.26 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP, 14 strikeouts, and no walks.

With that being said, Schlittler has embraced and enjoyed playing in New York. Many fans around Major League Baseball hate the Yankees and Schlittler likes that.

Cam Schlittler Sends Bold Message to Yankees Haters

Gary Phillips of NY Daily News Sports shared a strong message from Schlittler. He made it clear that he thrives on the haters.

“We’re the Yankees,” he said. “Everyone hates us. I find enjoyment in that.”

That is exactly what fans in New York want to hear. Schlittler has embraced the city’s mindset and is thriving in that role. His career is just getting started and he has already become a star both on and off the field.

For those fans who dislike the Yankees, this is the kind of message that can trigger them even more.

New York Still Has Plenty of Room to Improve

Even with how good the team has looked so far this season, New York still has room to grow. To start the season, both Anthony Volpe and Gerrit Cole haven’t played as they recover from injury.

When the entire roster is healthy, the Yankees are going to be even better. That should be a scary thought for opposing teams.

Of course, the season has just begun. New York is 5-1, but no one knows what the record will look like at the All-Star break. It’s way too early to overreact one way or another to how a team has started the season.

That being said, the Yankees have to be feeling confident. If they can get fully healthy and keep playing at the level they have shown, the sky is the limit and World Series contention is certainly a strong possibility.
