Oftentimes, when massive signings across Major League Baseball happen, there is a buffer of a few days before the signing is made official by the team. In the New York Yankees case, they reached an agreement with outfielder Cody Bellinger on a five-year, $162.5 million contract last week.
On Monday, the New York Yankees’ social media account made the announcement that they have signed Cody Bellinger to a five-year contract that includes two opt-outs. There are no deferrals in the contract, and Bellinger will receive a $20 million signing bonus. The Yankees will have to make a corresponding roster move, but that has not been announced just yet.

Yankees Officially Re-Sign Cody Bellinger
After the New York Yankees acquired Cody Bellinger in a trade about a year ago, Bellinger seemed to really enjoy his first season in pinstripes.
Cody Bellinger’s agent is Scott Boras, who is notorious for pulling his clients out of their current contracts, testing the market, maximizing his clients’ value, and then striking a player-friendly deal with a desperate team to ensure his client gets a contract under their own respective terms. The same situation played out here with Cody Bellinger, and Bellinger’s two opt-outs included in the contract may or may not be used, depending on how Bellinger performs.
In 2025 with the Yankees, Bellinger played 152 games with 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, a .272 average, and an OPS+ of 125.
Bellinger certainly benefits from playing in Yankee Stadium with the short porch in right field and the fact that it’s rated as one of the more favorable outfields to defend in MLB.

Will the Yankees Make Any More Signings?
The big item on the Yankees’ offseason wish list was retaining Cody Bellinger, which they have ultimately been successful in doing.
Now, fans, analysts, and reporters are wondering what’s next for the Yankees.
The team still needs a starting pitcher to start the 2026 season, and Brian Cashman could go out and acquire a value arm like Zack Littell, Nick Martinez, or Patrick Corbin to help eat up some innings for the first few months.

It’s important to note, though, that the Yankees have a pretty complete roster to this point. The addition of Bellinger completes the outfield, and aside from maybe another infielder to put more pressure on Anthony Volpe, the infield feels complete as well.
Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon are set to open the 2026 season on the Injured List, which is why many believe the Yankees could afford to grab another starter either via free agency or a meaningful trade.
There are just three weeks left until MLB spring training opens up.
