Over the weekend, there was a big update on Giancarlo Stanton.
He has been out since April 24 with an injury.
MLB.com wrote (on August 22): “Sustained a “moderate” left calf strain after falling while running bases Aug. 20. Had been nearing the recovery of a right calf strain. Manager Aaron Boone said the club is “not ruling anything out” but acknowledged it will be difficult for Stanton to return in time to contribute this season.”
Following the update, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic spoke about Stanton (via Foul Territory).
Kuty: “Look, Giancarlo Stanton is a proud veteran, he’s someone who’s accomplished a lot in this game. He’s someone who thinks that he’s got more in the tank, right? He wouldn’t be out here trying to get back on the field if he didn’t think he could get back on the field, if he didn’t want to get back on the field. He’s got a lot to play for. The Yankees, he’s real respected in that clubhouse. Just last season, he was kind of getting into his teammates to perform better, to perform up to their standards in a closed-door meeting in their clubhouse in Texas. He also just is 40 home runs shy of 500. I mean, he’s got a lot to play for. There’s still one more year left on his deal. And if I’m Giancarlo Stanton, I try to keep playing.”
