The New York Yankees were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays after a 5-4 loss on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. Aaron Judge launched a two-run home run in the ninth inning to pull New York within a run, but the rally fell short.
The Yankees are now 8-7. Five straight losses have erased what felt like a dominant start to the season. The lineup that was built to overpower opponents has gone quiet.
After the game, Judge addressed the skid.
Judge Keeps It Simple
Judge acknowledged the frustration but refused to let the moment get bigger than it is.
“Every game matters, we know that,” Judge said. “It’s nothing new for us…You got to have a short memory and move on to the next one. Nothing we can do about it.”
Judge pointed out that tough stretches are part of every season and that the Yankees have been through them before.
He also pushed back against any sense of panic, saying he sees positive signs in the at-bats and believes the lineup will turn the corner.

A Tough Weekend For The Yankees
The Rays outplayed the Yankees across the three-game sweep. Tampa Bay’s combination of speed, contact hitting, and small ball execution exposed weaknesses in New York’s approach. Tampa Bay had an answer every time New York scored.
Across the three games, the Rays responded with runs in nearly every inning the Yankees put a number on the board.
Sunday’s loss was the most painful. Cam Schlittler allowed a season-high seven hits across five innings. Drew Rasmussen shut the Yankees down. By the time New York’s bats woke up, it was too late to complete the comeback.

Final Word for the Yankees
The hot start feels distant. Five losses in a row can do that. The pitching staff has held up its end for most of the season, but the offense has struggled as of late.
Judge is not panicking. He’s right that it is still early. The talent is there. The execution has not been.
