With spring training just a month away, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman still has a lot he’d like to accomplish.
For starters, the Yankees want to shore up their outfield, and they are pursuing a reunion with Cody Bellinger.
Additionally, they are trying to beef up their rotation. New York has been connected to Edward Cabrera, with talks for the Marlins star right-hander reportedly heating up in recent days.
And that’s not all. According to The Athletic, the Yankees are one of several clubs to check in on Brewers ace Freddy Peralta.
Why is Freddy Peralta on the Trade Block?
While the extent of the Yankees’ interest in Peralta remains uncertain, it’s no surprise to see them linked to the two-time All-Star.
The 29-year-old Peralta has become one of the premier pitchers in baseball, and with the Brewers possibly looking to slash payroll, he’s ripe for the taking.
Peralta was an All-Star for the second time last season, when he posted a 2.70 ERA across 176.2 innings and led the NL with 17 wins. He also surpassed 200 strikeouts for the third straight season, finishing with 204.
With Peralta set to become a free agent following the 2026 season, the cost-conscious Brewers could look to deal hm for a haul instead of losing him for nothing next winter.
What Teams Are Pursuing Freddy Peralta?
Peralta could be an anchor at the front of the Yankees’ rotation alongside left-hander Max Fried, who led the majors with 19 wins during his first year in pinstripes. Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole boast proven track records but are coming off significant injuries, while Luis Gil, Cam Schlittler and Will Warren are young and emerging.
Cashman said he’d “love” to bring in another accomplished starter, but according to The Athletic, the asking price for Peralta remains high.
Some of the other teams in the mix include the Mets, Dodgers, Braves, and Red Sox.
