Yankees no. 2-ranked prospect, right-handed pitcher Carlos Lagrange, has greatly impressed in Yankees camp this spring training. Lagrange, who’s just 22 years old, throws a triple-digit fastball that can top out at 103 mph, as well as other plus pitches, including a mid-90s slider, a change-up, and a sweeper.
Lagrange showed off his elite stuff in another spring outing today, this time against the Red Sox at George M Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
Lagrange pitched four shutout innings, recording four strikeouts, and only surrendered two hits with one walk. The young right-hander has lofty goals this year, which include perfecting his command.
Lagrange Has Three Plus Pitches In His Repertoire
Lagrange’s slider reached 94 mph, and his change-up touched 93 mph with a 91 mph slider. Lagrange being able to command these pitches could make him an elite starter one day, or an effective reliever, whichever works out better.
According to Yankees Beat Writer Bryan Hoch, Yankees catcher Austin Wells said, “I don’t have any doubts he could help us right now”, stated Wells.
Following the game, Hoch mentions that Lagrange said his “improvements in camp consist of attacking the zone and executing with two strikes more consistently.”
Lagrange was also asked whether he believes he’s ready for the next level with the Yankees, to which he replied, “Yeah.”
Lagrange is a big pitcher listed at 6’7 248 lbs, and the Yankees currently plan on using him as a starter, like they did last year in the minor leagues, and that’s how they’ve been building him out in spring training up to this point.
Lagrange has only pitched as high as Double-A Somerset since last season. It’s uncertain whether Lagrange will make the big league roster right out of camp because of these reasons, but he’s certainly built himself a strong case, posting a 0.66 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched, with 13 strikeouts and a 0.73 WHIP.
Lagrange Could Make Significant Impact In 2026 Yankees Bullpen
The Yankees’ bullpen is a glaring hole for the team heading into the 2026 season, with the only significant acquisitions being right-handers Cade Winquest and Angel Chivilli during the offseason. Lagrange could be just what the Yankees need in terms of an internal bullpen upgrade at some point in the 2026 season.
Or the original plan to build him into a starting pitcher could work out, too, with a similar effect to what the organization saw last year with the emergence of another young right-hander, Cam Schlittler.
Either way, Lagrange has shown he could be a potential X factor on the Yankees roster in 2026, as Yankees fans will want to keep an eye on this young right-hander as the Yankees look to end their 16-year championship drought. For Lagrange, he could make a significant impact either out of the Yankees pen or the starting rotation, whichever Lagrange thrives most in, and whatever the Yankees organization best sees him succeeding in long term, if not a mix of both.
