The Philadelphia Phillies are riding an eight-game winning streak into their series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.
Philadelphia is coming off a dominant 12-3 victory on Saturday and continues to get strong production from Alec Bohm. He has recorded five multi-hit games in his last seven starts and has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games.
However, Phillies manager Don Mattingly made a somewhat sudden decision regarding Bohm ahead of Sunday’s matchup with St. Louis.
Phillies Announce Bohm Decision
Despite recording two hits on Saturday and three hits Friday, including a walk-off triple, Bohm is out of the starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale.
Kyle Schwarber will instead start at first base, where Bohm has primarily played recently, while Bryce Harper will serve as the designated hitter.

Mattingly noted that Bohm has dealt with some tightness when stretching at first base. He believes the issue is in the hamstring or groin area, which likely contributed to the decision to give Bohm the day off. However, Mattingly did not sound overly concerned about the issue.
Bohm’s 2026 Season
While Bohm struggled for much of the season, particularly early on, he’s settled in and could be catching fire at the perfect time as the Phillies gear up for a postseason run.
He’s currently batting .246 with 115 hits, 14 home runs and 75 RBIs while slugging .390 with a .695 OPS across 125 games and 464 at-bats.
