Philadelphia Phillies Predicted to Trade Alec Bohm to Help ‘Save Season’

The Philadelphia Phillies have endured a rough start to the 2026 season. Aside from the New York Mets, there has been no bigger disappointment in baseball than the Phillies. In the wake of firing manager Rob Thomson, what else can the Phillies do to salvage the season?

FanSided.com’s Christopher Kline proposes a five-step plan, and the first order of business should be trading third baseman Alec Bohm, according to Kline.

Should the Phillies Trade Alec Bohm?

Kline wrote (on April 30): “The Phillies should see what the trade market offers up for a 29-year-old with All-Star pedigree. It’s probably not much, as Bohm is on an expiring contract, but this is a pure exercise in addition by subtraction. Even if the Phillies practically give Bohm away, just getting a fresh bat (or two) in the mix at third base could work wonders.”

Bohm is one of the worst qualified hitters in MLB. He’s hitting .157 with an OPS below .450 in over 100 at-bats. It’s been a disastrous start for Alec Bohm, who was once an MLB All-Star. It’s also a contract year for Bohm, which is not helping his case to stay in Philadelphia.

If you’re Dave Dombrowski, who indicated to MLB insider Jon Morosi that trade talks have commenced already this season (big trades that is), trading Bohm before he hits free agency could be a smart move. The issue with trading Bohm is that the return haul is not going to be strong, and certainly, there should be some positive regression in Bohm’s future.

Who Could the Phillies Trade Alec Bohm Too?

If the Phillies are actually serious about trading Alec Bohm, a few potential suitors could be the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Arizona Diamondbacks.

More time has to go by before you can truly make a judgment on who will be buyers or sellers at the deadline, but the early reads suggest the Phillies will likely be active players.

The other ‘steps’ that Kline proposes in his piece about saving the Phillies’ season are Kyle Schwarber getting more leadoff opportunities, upgrading the Dylan Moore spot, and targeting bullpen depth.

Truthfully, there are a lot of things the Phillies need to do in order to turn their season around, but trading Alec Bohm is a great starting point.
