The Giants have optioned Bryce Eldridge to Triple-A ahead of the start of the 2026 campaign

The San Francisco Giants are entering the 2026 campaign hoping to make some noise in the National League West division. After winning the division in 2021, the Giants have responded by essentially being a .500 team over the past four years, which has resulted in them missing the playoffs each year.

San Fran faces some stiff competition with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres also being in its division, but there’s reason to believe that 2026 could be different. The roster is already stocked full with talent, but more help could be on the way, as there’s a handful of prospects who are close to making their major league debuts. First baseman Bryce Eldridge is atop that group, and ahead of Opening Day, the Giants have made a decision on his future.

Giants Option Bryce Eldridge to Triple-A

Eldridge has been widely regarded as San Fran’s No. 1 prospect for a while now, but he’s also the No. 25 overall prospect in the entire league entering the new year. Standing at 6’7, Eldridge is an imposing presence at the plate who can hit for both power and contact, and he can also play strong defense in the field, whether it be at first or in the outfield if needed.

In 2025, Eldridge continued his meteoric rise through San Fran’s farm system, as he finished the year at Triple-A. Eldridge’s final numbers for the year were solid (.260 BA, 25 HR, 84 RBI, .843 OPS), and he ended up briefly making his major league debut late in the year. That didn’t go as well, though, as Eldridge hit just .107 in 28 at-bats.

All eyes were on Eldridge during Spring Training to see if he could cement a spot for himself on the Giants’ Opening Day roster. His numbers aren’t awful (.231 BA, 1 HR, 6 RBI, .849 OPS), but it looks like he needs a little more time to develop. As a result, he was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday, officially ending his hopes of beginning the year in the big leagues.

“Eldridge was optioned back to Triple-A on Thursday, along with infielder Tyler Fitzgerald and outfielder Grant McCray,” Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reported. “The 21-year-old had hoped to crack the Opening Day roster, but instead will return to Sacramento, where he played 66 games last season before a September cameo in the big leagues.”

Bryce Eldridge Could Still Find His Way to the Majors in 2026

Eldridge has the makings of being a superstar hitter for the Giants, but he has looked a bit overwhelmed at times during his brief stint in the majors and throughout Spring Training. At only 21 years old, San Francisco can afford to take its time when it comes to Eldridge’s development, as it doesn’t have to rush him to the majors by any means.

It ultimately isn’t much of a surprise to see that Eldridge will begin the year in the minors, but there’s still a good shot he finds his way to the majors in 2026, especially if he can play as well as he did last season. Eldridge will likely be disappointed to have not earned a spot on the Opening Day roster, but if all goes according to plan, he will be making an impact in the big leagues at some point later this year.
