Giants No. 1 Prospect Makes Intentions Clear For 2026 MLB Season

Bryce Eldridge has made his intentions clear heading into 2026.

The MLB offseason is nearing an end. Pitchers and catchers report to camp in less than one month, and the free agent market is dwindling. With that said, the San Francisco Giants have been relatively quiet. The Giants have been linked to plenty of players, but a signing or trade has not yet happened. With spring training right around the corner, the chances of a move happening seem less likely. And the team’s No. 1 prospect, Bryce Eldridge, is ready to hit the ground running.

Eldridge made a brief appearance in the Major Leagues in 2025, but struggled quite a bit. He slashed .107/.297/.179 over 10 games played. However, the top prospect is ready to put the past behind him and make an impact at Oracle Park in 2026.

“My expectations for myself are to earn a spot, stay out there, and continue to make an impact for the team. Continue to drive in runs, make plays on the field, and continue to hit the ball,” Eldridge told Maria Guardado of MLB.com.

Eldridge has a chance to make the opening day roster, but it has to be earned in spring training. If he plays well in Arizona, the Giants would have no choice but to give him a spot on the 26-man roster.

Bryce Eldridge Battled Injury Last Season

It is not a secret that Eldridge endured struggles in his first taste of the big leagues. But he does have a little bit of an excuse.

The 21-year-old played a majority of the year with a wrist injury that would have landed most players on the injured list. His success at the minor league level was not affected, but the wrist remained bothersome.

When the offseason started, Eldridge received surgery on his wrist to remove a bone spur. Playing through that is not easy, but the first baseman found a way to power through the pain. But a wrist injury like that is going to make it very hard to swing the bat, especially at the level necessary to compete in the MLB.

“Some days were better than others. It was definitely mentally challenging, too, just knowing I’ve got to go up there, and I didn’t feel 100 percent for most of the year. But it just gives me confidence, knowing what I was able to do with not feeling my best, especially on an upper-body injury. You kind of need that to swing the bat,” Eldridge said, per Guardado.

The good news is that the surgery was a success. The former first-round pick will be ready to go by the time spring training starts.

Eldridge Ignored The Trade Rumors

Eldridge is one of the top prospects in the MLB, and the Giants have not ruled out a blockbuster trade before spring training. This means Eldridge is on the trade block. If San Francisco wants to bring in a big name that will immediately impact the team, they will have to be willing to pay the price.

Early in the offseason, Eldridge was made available on the trade market. Although it would take a real superstar to move him, the Giants were willing to part ways with him. Rafael Devers will play first base for the foreseeable future. Which means Eldridge is positionally blocked on the big league team anyway.

The offseason is not over, but it does not seem that a trade will happen. And Eldridge is right where he wants to be.

“I try not to get too wrapped up in anything going on,” Eldridge said. “But I want to be here. I want to play for this team. I don’t plan on leaving here anytime soon.”
